Multiple Volunteer Technology Positions Available
The Philadelphia Future City Competition is seeking a volunteer to support our website and manage other tech issues. The competition is run entirely by volunteers. About 200 volunteers participate every year led by 24 members of the Steering committee. We are seeking an individual to join the steering committee as the Tech Lead or Tech Project Manager. This would be an ongoing position to ensure that all necessary technology tasks are covered. We are currently migrating to a new WordPress based website and the initial task is to support the process along with the current Tech Lead. You will become the admin for the site and show other team members how to update their sections of the site or if you wish, do the updates for them. Additional tasks for you and your team are:
- Manage the various annual updates to the site. These are seasonal and repeat every year. A major goal of modernizing the site is to make it easy for other volunteers to do these tasks.
- A major task is the posting of pictures after the competition in January. It would be ideal if this volunteer has the knowledge of or would like to learn how to use AI tools to execute the annual post competition update. There are about 250 photos posted after the competition (displayed as thumbnails of various sizes linked to high resolution photos). It would be ideal if this volunteer has the knowledge of or would like to learn how to use AI tools to execute the annual post competition update.
- Primary contact with the hosting provider.
- Primary contact with the domain registrar.
- cPanel admin (web hosting tool)
- Assume ownership of other Future City Philly accounts as needed.
- Admin for Futurecityphilly.org email accounts (there are only a few mostly used for social media accounts)
- Ensure that the competition will have ongoing access to social media accounts in the event of volunteer turnover.
- Coordinate with the photography team to ensure that we get all the pictures we want with associated meta data and that they are uploaded to the cloud where they can be retrieved for posting on the website.
- On day of the competition, do auditorium sound and light check in the morning.
We are seeking volunteers who would be interested in taking on any of these tasks as well as someone to take a leadership role.
